Icons of Jesus Christ

Orthodox tradition speaks about a painter laureate of the King of Edessa, who was in charge of creation of real face of Jesus Christ. The painter was not familiar with this task, so he prayed and Jesus Christ himself revealed to him and thus (Jesus) printed his face on the canvas. Thus, according to the legend, was created of the icons of Jesus Christ.

Since the 4th Century are created new Christian icons that depicts Christ Pantokrator – Almighty. The icon depicts Jesus Christ with the right hand raised in blessing, and in the pose of his fingers we can find Greek initials of his name IC XC. On the icon Jesus Christ is usually depicted holding a roll or a book of Gospel – the cheerful news on salvation of human. This kind of Christian icon is placed in the iconostas next to imperial gate.
